Because of the natural bay settings of Huatulco’s beaches, the waters are calm and ideal for snorkeling. Five of the region’s nine bays have been designated as part of a National Aquatic Park in an attempt to preserve the flora and fauna of the region. Today, the bays of Huatulco contain about 15 different sites ideal for diving or snorkeling. Though the coral reefs may not be quite as colorful as in the Caribbean, the diversity of marine life is breathtaking. For diving or snorkeling, we recommend these areas: Risco La Blanca, El Naufragio and San Augustín for diving along with Isla Cacaluta, Playa El Indio, and Chachacual for snorkeling.
